CUPPING COURSE FOR MANUAL THERAPISTS, Saturday 14th July 2018
@ London School of Osteopathy, Grange Road, London

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is an ancient method in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to remove stagnation and stimulate the flow of Qi & Blood. It can be used to relieve muscle tension, promote blood & lymph circulation, detoxification & healing.

A partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction, that uses small glass cups or bamboo/clay jars as suction devices that are placed on the skin. There are several ways that a practitioner can create the suction in the cups.

Generally, cupping is combined with acupuncture in one treatment, but it can also be used alone. The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system. Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, etc. Cupping is one of the best deep-tissue therapies available. It is thought to affect tissues up to four inches deep from the external skin. Toxins can be released, blockages can be cleared, and veins and arteries can be refreshed within these four inches of affected materials. Even hands, wrists, legs, and ankles can be ‘cupped,' thus applying the healing to specific organs that correlate with these points.
Cupping has gained publicity in modern times due to its use by American sport celebrities including National Football League player DeMarcus Ware and Olympians Alexander Naddour, Natalie Coughlin, and Michael Phelps.

This course explores the fundamental concepts and techniques for cupping therapy. Students will develop theoretical knowledge and practical skill on the cupping theory. We will talk about the foundation behind the cupping therapy in TCM. We will guide students to learn and practise different cupping skills. We will discuss which problems cupping can help, and how to help. Also we will let students aware in which conditions cupping should not be used.

At the end of the semester students will be able to 1) how to apply cupping correctly and safe; 2) identify and describe what condition that cupping therapy can be used; 3) which cupping method should be used on different problems; and 4) learn the benefit and side-effect cupping can lead to.

With the course you will be given a course booklet to correspond with the course and a set of your own cups to practice with during the day and to take home with you.

Course costs £170 for 1 day (7 hours)
Early bird cost £145 if paid before 7th July 2018

HVT Course

'I just wanted to thank you both so much for the great HVT course at the weekend. I came into work today and have already released the OA bilaterally on 3 people (2 x patients both with neck pain and stuck OA;s and 1 x colleague who I had tried to release his OA a month ago without success and managed to do it today with ease) - also did an AA release. I have also released someone's DL and LS today neither of which I would have done last week. Have also been using the MET to anteriorise a patients ilium plus chicago on a different patient so in just one day I have already used a large number of the techniques from the course that I would not normally have used.'
